Calves are weaned at 8 months of age.

The bull calves are reared for bull beef on a diet of maize, cereals and concentrates. From weaning they are fattened for 10 months being killed at 18 months old and are then exported to Italy, Greece and Holland.

The majority of the females are destined for breeding, being served at around 2 years old.

However, a few non-breeding heifers are killed at 3 years old; but the jewel of the Parthenaise breed is the young cows that are killed for beef, being fattened from between 4 and 6 years old.

These young cows destined for beef are fed over a long period on a high ration of maize, hay, cereals and concentrate to produce the highest quality beef, which is selected by the traditional French butcher.
